“The more I learn the more I get to quietly live my life as Sherlock Holmes, living in this strange and mysterious world, slowly unlocking its mysteries. No, I’m not solving a murder case, but I wouldn’t want to do that anyway. I prefer just looking around me and seeing beyond what I’m looking at.”

This reminded me of a part from “A Scandal in Bohemia”:

“Quite so,” he answered, lighting a cigarette, and throwing himself down into an armchair. “You see, but you do not observe. The distinction is clear.”
“For example, you have frequently seen the steps which lead up from the hall to this room.”
“Frequently.”
“How often?”
“Well, some hundreds of times.”
“Then how many are there?”
“How many? I don’t know.”
“Quite so! You have not observed. And yet you have seen. That is just my point. Now, I know that there are seventeen steps, because I have both seen and observed.”

Have you ever heard of ecosystem services? It's basically all the services provided unto us simply by nature. Like the ground or a marsh filtering water so it's drinkable. Some people have totaled all the services together and it far exceeds the world's GDP. It's amazing what nature can do for us, while we go around destroying 12.6 million acres of rainforest in Africa every year. Something like half of our medicines come from plants, but it is estimated that we know only about something like 25% of all plant species. The kinds of things that nature does for us is incredible. It's depressing to see the Palins of the world not care about any of it, indirectly destroying tons of money and lives.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('293','Timothy Fairman'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('293','Timothy Fairman','Have you ever heard of ecosystem services?
