The main charecter is employed literaly changing history every day. The government doesn't directly do it, but our media is just as bad. Oceania is caught in a perpetual war. But all that is heard is pro war propaganda nothing about the serious economic consequences that the "war" is causing. No, because it benefits the inner party, they can still stay in power. The same thing is going on now. Hide the tragedy of war, our civilians can't see that. I think the whole purpose of the book was to say that this won't happen in 1984 but is happening now and will happen as long as humanity lives.
