Time To Burn Some Korans!

Have you guys heard?  Apparently some crazy pastor in Florida is going to hold an event to burn Korans.   You can read about it here:

On the afternoon of July 12, the Rev. Terry Jones fired off a series of messages on Twitter, decrying Islam as fascism and President Obama’s support for a new Kenyan constitution that could permit abortion and codify Islamic law. His final one for the day said this: 9/11/2010 Int Burn a Koran Day.

With that abbreviated declaration, the fringe pastor from Gainesville, Fla., began a crusade that two months later culminated in deadly riots in Afghanistan, threats from jihadists and pleas from world leaders that Jones call off his inflammatory stunt.

The escalation of tweet to tense global spectacle is a story of hate and distrust amplified by tools of instant communication. Enabled by a burst of saturation media coverage this week, Jones shrewdly tapped into controversy over an Islamic center planned near Ground Zero and the fears of millions that Islam is a religion of violence.

Two days after Jones sent his tweet and started a Facebook group, an organization that monitors news about Islam rang the first alarm bell. EuroIslam.Info, a collection of news and analysis headed by a Harvard professor of divinity, picked up the Dove World mission statement – “To bring to awareness to the dangers of Islam and that the Koran is leading people to hell” – and posted it on its “Islamaphobia Observatory” section. By July 21, the Council on American-Islamic Relations was calling for Koran education sessions to refute the burnings.

The mainstream media is beyond saving.  You know, they’ve done everything to stir up this mess.  Christianity vs Islam … FIGHT!

“No my holy book is the true holy book!”
“No my holy book is the true holy book!”
“Your religion is of the devil.”
“No YOUR religion is of the devil!”
“Oh no, you are NOT building a mosque here!”
“Oh yes we are!”

Riots are breaking out, people are being killed, and threats are being made.  Protesters are lining the streets.

I just can’t help but shake my head in disgust.

Religion is plague to this world.  Look at what people are doing to each other over imagined nonsense in their heads.

My guess is the mainstream media is being paid by our government to stir this up.  This gives them justification to keep troops in the middle-east.  They have to keep stirring up fear.  After all, they have to justify these needless wars.  They want to keep us in continual fear of extremists.  This is all fear-mongering.  They also need an excuse to invade Iran, which they’ve been priming the public for for a long time.  They want us to keep the middle east in mind and always associate the area with radical Islamic extremists with nuclear weapons.  That’s the ONLY reason they care about this crackpot in Florida.  You’d think we’d have learned our lesson from Iraq, but no.

I personally couldn’t care less whether they build a mosque or don’t build a mosque.  I couldn’t care less if a Quran is burned.  I couldn’t care less a Bible is burned.  I couldn’t care less about what any of these idiots are doing.  I get tired of hearing about this stuff over and over and over, like a stuck record.  Humanity can’t get past all the stupidity and superstition.

This video sums up my opinion of the matter.

  1. I was just reading an article that pretty much summed up a lot of what you are saying: http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2017447,00.html?xid=rss-fullnation-yahoo

I too, am fed up with what the mainstream media is doing to the minds of their viewers. As a young journalism major, I am very much aware of the power I have. The words I write and the subjects that I chose to focus on can impact society a great deal.

In my classes I have learned how people crave reading about conflict, drama, violence, etc. Those are the stories that sell, however it is the duty of the journalism to keep a well-informed and balanced eye.

I have so much to learn.
