United States Funding The Taliban?

I was reading news articles here on the computer for an hour or so, like I do a couple times a week, and what do I come across?  I find myself reading an article on Reuters telling how we, the United States, fund the Taliban in Afghanistan.  Yep, it’s right here on my screen.  Is it legit?   *Shrugs* Read it for yourself.  Link below.

And why you all check that out, I’m going to get back to studying astronomy.  I can only handle so much of this stuff per day.  News sources are always conflicting.   70% are for healthcare reform.  The other network tells you 70% are against reform.  There’s always some poll, some statistic.  Some breaking news and all of it conflicts.  Every network tells us, “Don’t trust this other network.  They’re the liars, don’t listen to them!”  TV news says one thing.  Their website articles say another.  Then you dig around and find even more articles which conflict with that.  It’s so tiring trying to reconcile information on politics.  Even if you spend hours and hours, you get nowhere.  I have better things to do with my life than trying to figure out who’s lying and who’s not.   They may ALL be lying for all I know.

KABUL — It is the open secret no one wants to talk about, the unwelcome truth that most prefer to hide. In Afghanistan, one of the richest sources of Taliban funding is the foreign assistance coming into the country.

Virtually every major project includes a healthy cut for the insurgents. Call it protection money, call it extortion, or, as the Taliban themselves prefer to term it, “spoils of war,” the fact remains that international donors, primarily the United States, are to a large extent financing their own enemy.

“Everyone knows this is going on,” said one U.S. Embassy official, speaking privately.

This seems to be a good time to listen to a classic by Fleetwood Mac.  Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies. Tell me lies, tell me tell me lies!
